No. Well, sortof. I got a warning "well, she doesn't really know how to do dishes... but she's like a fun little sister type" and I should have read more into that, being the oldest of 6 kids.

If she doesn't start cleaning the cat box more regularly I'm going to put it on her bed until she does. She's also really short so I've put all the good dishes on the highest shelves I can find.

and really she doesn't do a whole lot else wrong. She holds a job, pays bills and rent, takes care of her car, doesn't smoke, drinks on the weekends... Its really like living with a dirty teenager. I'm hoping to set an example by keeping everything clean. She did clean her room yesterday!

Tim has been so great about chores since we moved into our new condo. He does the dishes, laundry, cleans up after himself, cooks...he is such a great husband

When I had my condo I lived next to this fucking nutty hippy chick. She was pretty cute and always nice to me, but she would get into these super crazy knock down drag outs with her bf at least twice a week really late at night that almost always resulted in some sort of physical altercation followed by them screaming at each other in the parking lot. Anyway, she had cats and whenever I'd walk by her place I could smell animal urine. The small peak I got at the carpet through her screen door looked like a petri dish and I doubt that place every got cleaned during her reign there. It was really grotz. She moved out and the land lord had to completely gut the place.

When people are unhappy, they leave messes everywhere, don't pick up after themselves, and also don't try to keep a regular cleaning habit. I went through phases of that off and on over the past five years.

A huge problem with this is that when you LIVE in a mess, or when you have roomies and they all have to also live in your mess, it creates a very unhealthy living situation, not to mention makes the messy individual even more depressed than they already are.

Keeping a tidy living quarters at all times, always having clean clothes, a clean bathroom, a clean kitchen, no dust or mess or anything anywhere, promotes insane amounts of pleasure and happiness. I always feel so great when I come home and my house is clean. Or when I wake up and it's clean everywhere, I'm more into waking up and going to work. On my way home from work, I'm not dreading going home to clean anything, because nothing ever needs to be cleaned since I make sure to clean up after myself now every day. Once a month I do a deep clean and every week I vacuum and dust the entire place, plus bathrooms. That leaves daily "picking up" which is very easy if you have a laundry basket, soap, and some towels or cleaning supplies.

I mean, as an ex-slob I can understand what this chick's problem is. She's lazy. It's almost impossible though to make her realize she'll be so much happier if she straightened up her shit daily. Not to mention since it's a roomie situation, those can be tough, because somebody is ALWAYS slackin. Always. So everybody always has the 'it aint fair!' excuses to not to shit around the house.

All I can say towards parkaboy is, I'm sorry you live with a slob. But you're enabling her to act that way by picking up her shit. Don't do that. She's a big girl. When the bugs and smells and messiness occur that you can't handle, that means it's time for you to move or her to GTFU. But I see you're moving out anyway so I guess it doesn't matter. If you're getting more roomies where you're goin, DON'T ENABLE.

Can I inquire, where are you moving to, whom with, and when?

I'm going to start doing dishes so we don't run out and throwing everything else in her room to deal with.

I currently live with her and my boyfriend, who treats her like the little sister he never had, including taking care of her, picking up after her... etc. I've told him time and time again that she's NEVER going to learn to function on her own if he keeps doing things for her, but he's incredibly patient and very much a care-taker type, so I can't really get angry at him for being a decent person.

He and I are hopefully moving to Providence in February, or we might stay on here another 6 months until I graduate. I would really love it if she'd find some non-high school age friends to move in with, but because of the little sister relationship, he's probably going to try to pack her up and move her with us. If that happens, I'm finding a place of my own to live and he can deal with it. Or, I'm just going to treat the situation like she's his pet - he gets to clean up after her since he insists she cannot survive without supervision.

absolutely sure. This girl is fucked up and he's having none of it. I believe him, and I believe his friends, my friends and her friends who say "haha, that hilarious. There is no way that would ever happen"

Its kind of like adopting a mentally retarded kitten. It requires extra work, you feel sorry for it but when its in heat, you don't fuck the kitten.

And even if he is, meh. As long as she's not giving me STDs via his penis, I don't much care.

LOL @ active/passive descriptions

I think most people are passively dirty... it really takes something to be actively dirty. ew

i had my surgery last week. so this weekend i did not clean like i normally do on saturdays. the house feels weird. i don't have the time miles does to do it every day. wowzers that must be nice. i barely have time to schedule in sleep & meals. if i do wake up reasonably early i like to do yoga to wake up. sometimes i race to put the trash on the curb in the morning. but that is about it.

so i didn't do my laundry/dishes... but i did wash out all the bowls & spoons that i used. i am compulsive about needing one side of the sink to be clean & empty at all times. i will skitz if there is no useable space in the sink. i also have to make up the bed before i go to sleep in it at night. lol i don't do it in the morning, but right before i mess it up again.

my roomate in college sounds like yours now rach. we thought putting dirty things in her room would solve the problem too. not so. she was oblivious. unlike us who suddenly never could find the dish we wanted to use.

i couldn't understand how she could let things grow on her linens & would cement cream of wheat bowls upside down in the sink. but then i met her parents...

came into the apartment & there were her folks with their pet goat. this was campus housing, so farm animals are unusual. i walk & in to the smell of goats & bourbon. i sniffed around & yes they were giving their pet bourbon in a cup.

i stayed with my b/f that night.

I cannot imagine letting the litter box go for a week, more less a month. I clean my cats box out a minimum twice a day, sometimes 3. I also cannot fathom having multiple cats in a house...I do not give a shit what anyone tells me, more cats = more hair and other bullshit to clean up.
