People calling in Sick

So this morning I get to work - phones blowing up and I'm here alone. AHHHHHHHH - which there should be two people here at 8:00am.

One thing that I understand - Kids get sick - FINE...but I wish someone would let me know before 10:00 that I'm going to be the only one here until 12:00. I would like to set a TRUE expectation to the customer on when I can get back with them. THIS DRIVES ME NUTS - if I can't set a correct expectation why take calls?!?!?!?

I just wish the team would be informed when someone is calling in sick. My boss has a email at home (which is where she is working from today) She knew last night 2 team members were going to be out today.

OH WELL - TGIF - b/c I can't wait for 5:00 so I can RAAAAAVE Tonight

There should always be a back up for phones. I'm 2nd back up. But after me are 6 back ups.

Oh hell - when I saw this thread I was like FUCK YEAH! I hate those assholes!
There are 6 people missing from my 13 person team today. 4 of them we already knew would be out, and 2 people decided oh hell I'll call in sick today since we're going to be short staffed.

I work in inbound sales that also requires outbound follow up calls and I'm like uhhhhhh how am I supposed to get anything done?!??!?!?!

No one ever calls in sick on my contract because there are only the 3 of us. We dont really have the option to be sick, lol. I do seem to always be picking up the slack because some people dont know how to do their fucking jobs though.

I called in sick today but no one picks up my slack..... they just blow up my fucking email all day long. I will end up having to come in over the weekend and bust my ass on monday to stay on top of deadlines.

i haven't called in sick in ages. my sick time is capped at 80 hours on my paycheck and it's been like that for months.

the only thing i hate about people calling in sick is when people call in when they aren't REALLY sick or they just don't feel like working. like "oh, i can't come in, i'm on my period." or, "i have a bad headache." or people call in because they partied too hard the night before, etc.

i work at a small boutique and most of the staff is composed of females in their early 20's and i hear excuses like that all the time and it's usually the same 2 or 3 people that are notorious for calling in. i mean, yeah, periods suck, headaches suck, and being hung over sucks but they don't suck enough to selfishly leave the rest of your coworkers in a lurch. we are all on the payroll making the same pay and it's insulting that a lazy asshole can make the same wage as me while being lazy and irresponsible.
