So I have p.c. epilepsy and am taking medication. Well, after a very stressful week at work and attending my best friends fathers funeral(he blew his head off). I had a p.c. on Monday morning. I contacted my work and went to the neurologist the first appt. that was available. The dr. did some blood work to check my lamictal levels and let me know that he would have the results on thursday or friday. This usually means that they either add another med or increase/possibly decrease what I am on. In the meantime, I am not driving because that would be stupid and I am not allowed. When this has happened in the past (mind you these are not grand mal seizures which require your license to be revoked) I don't drive until I have adjusted on the meds and have permission from my neurologist. Never has it been "You can never drive again" because we closely monitor my seizures and I can tell when an aura is coming on. Well, I let my work know that my retired mother would be driving me to and from work and to the shelters until I get the ok from my doctor. I mean, come on I'm doing my job and getting where I need to be safely. She will do this for me as long as needed because my job is extremely important to me. Again, I will at least know something by tomorrow. My supervisor and cfo come tell me that unless i get a release to drive by tomorrow morning, they are going to let me go. Nevermind that I have someone that will drive me wherever I need to go. Who are they to say how I get there? I have worked my ass off at this agency, developed a kick ass program and drastically increased their numbers. I am crushed. My neurologist called the agency and explained that the driving thing would only be temporary and that I would have someone carting me around and the agency said that would break confidentiality which is bullshit since my mother would be sitting in the car at the shelter with no idea who i am working with. If they are going to can me, couldn't they at least wait until we have the results from the lab. For all I know, they'll say I can start driving again on MOnday. I know that this is a serious illness and I don't want to kill anyone, but I am being closely monitored by an epileptologist very closely. My heart is broken and I am crushed.

Oh my God, for the type of organization you work for, they sound like some heartless people to do that you. I don't see why they can't bend the rules just a little for somebody so great. I hope they have a change of heart and tell you something differently tomorrow..

I can't believe this is happening

If they fire you, sue the shit out of them. Usually I don't jump on that bandwagon, but I would think in this scenario you'd have a case.

yikes - I'm really sorry that you are going through this. what BS. Hang in there sweetie!!!! Just think...if you get let go from this agency...sue them then go and work for someone who actually cares about their employees!

wow. just...wow. i'm a pretty unsympathetic person and even I think that is just downright shitty. I mean, way to support your employees. what's even shittier is that you can't do anything about it...or can you? I'm not sure, but I know Texas is an 'at-will' state so you can be fired for pretty much anything if I'm remembering correctly.

you mentioned shelters...like homeless shelters? is it a non profit / charity type job, or what?

I think I have a general idea what kind of work she does because my sister used to do it. It's generally a thankless job, but it does a lot of good. This thread made me feel so bad. I really hope this all works out for you.

Hang in there. I understand your heartbreak, especially knowing there are people out there who need you and you can't get to them because your agency is run by dum dums.

This is some bullshit!!!! Could this be resolved by having your Mom sign a confidentiality agreement also? I hope it works out for you Wang. I'm sorry for your condition and wish the best for your health.
