for the second time in less than a year, i have no power in half my apartment . i was getting ready to iron a shirt this morning and BLOOP out it went. nothing works in the bedroom, kitchen (except for the fridge, thank god!), eating area, and half the living room. chris' tv works so of course he's all "chill out babe, whats the big deal?" DO NOT TELL ME TO CHILL OUT I AM PISSED THE FUK OFF

its not the breakers you maintenance fuck, its these poorly constructed living spaces! its the fucking wiring! if in fact it turns out to be the goddamn breaker, i'll eat my hat.

i swear to GOD if some other non-certified yokel of a maintenance man comes gouging holes in my wall again tying to "fix" the problem, i'm buring the entire complex to the ground

because if you plugged in an iron and then it goes out, sounds like the breakers to me.

of course, that was the first thing i went to look at. they're fine. not to mention, one breaker wouldn't control half the damn apartment. everything went out at once.

i dunno, they're at least 30 years old. a dude who works with my bf told us that when he was in college (and he's in his early 50s now) he had a buddy who lived there and sold bud out of his apt.

ahh.. if they are closer to 40 then the problem is aluminum wires. the contacts at the walls are copper. they used aluminum back in the day because copper went to the war effort (Vietnam). one of the contacts has burned thru, got an air bubble in the butt connector, or something like that. of course, i'm not over there looking at it, but it totally sounds like a problem of that nature.

don't even get me started. i didn't want to keep living in this place, but i was talked into it. i hate these apartments. in the words of Cher Horowitz they're a full on Monet: "From far away it looks ok, but up close its a big ol' mess."

that's the twist on cap that interlocks wires. there may be aluminum wires running thru the apartment, but the wall plugs/outlets would be retrofitted with copper. the copper/aluminum mixture works ok... but not as good as copper to copper. the connectors should be the liquid filled to form a seal over the wires. if not, or they have worn out, an air bubble or small blowout could have occurred. shouldn't be a big deal if that's the problem. they'll need to follow the flow of current from outlet to outlet to find the kink in the operation.

Well that sucks. I suggest finding a new place soon. It sucks to live in a piece of shit apartment. I lived in one for about 3 months and I couldn't stand it!

it's something that can totally happen over time. if they weren't done properly, they wouldn't have worked very long or at all.
