yeah, moms are usually the ones to let it go on for too long and hide it from Pops. Not mine though...Moms would rat me out in a hot second. Family is family but there comes a time when doing whats best for the fam may mean 86'ing a member, especially if its through repetitive fault of their own.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with telling a relative that they cannot come live in your house, especially if an absolute stranger is probobly more trustworthy than the relative is

Im the same way. Ive done pretty much everything, but I only had a problem with heroin. That shit hooked me good. I have had in the past some issues with alcohol. That had more to do with depression and coming out and a douchbag asshole. I got no probs now. Ill be clean 3 years from the H in march. Everyone did turn their backs on me when I was a junkie. It made no difference to me though. I hit rock bottom when I totalled my brand new RSX. I nodded out and hit a light post on goerge bush. I was going 55. It was sobering to say the least. I luckily walked away with nothing more than a burn on my hand from the airbag. Big props to acura. I knew then I had to change. I holed myself up in my apartment for several days and kicked it. Im so happy now. It doesnt really matter what anyone else does to you, an addict will not quit till they hav been smacked with a reality check and truely want to change. I cant even imagine living that life again.

My cousin was a meth addict for a LONG time - 10 plus years.
The effect that shit has on your brain and personality is amazing.
The has 5 children, 3 of which were taken away due to her drug usage.
She has the mentality of a teenager however she is almost 35. She is clean now and is trying to get her life in order but it seems almost impossible as she keeps getting into bad situations with her relationships. She does not have the know how to get out, get a job or to socialize normally.
I worry about her constantly and try to straight talk with her as much as I can get away with. It is hard because she is obviously jealous of the life I live. No children, in a nice place, with a nice man. I feel like she resents me.

Thats exactly it.......You have your own family to be responsable for, in your home you are Dad and your family depends on you to keep them safe from situations like that. While he is your brother, he is not your responsibility and there is no reason that you should feel obligated to compromise the security of your home to give him a place to sleep.

My oldest brother went through some shaky times and as difficult as it was I had to keep him out of my house...even when he had nowhere to sleep and no one else to help. If he was sick I would give him a ride to the ER, if he was starving I would give him some food.....but I never allowed him to come into my home or get close to my family until he pulled his head out of his ass and got his shit together. It took him about 10 years of fuckups to finally come around, but it did happen. If my family and I had enabled him he would likely still be a piece of shit and who knows what it would have cost me in the process. Sometimes not helping is the best help you can provide.

Worked a case with chronic meth abusing defendant... he had PET scans done to show the deterioration to his brain.. simply incredibly

which leaves them a choice of two sucky options....

1) life high

2) life sober

one choice gets better the other doesn't.... no one is remotely suggesting it is an easy thing to do. I think the notion is that the alternative to not getting clean is so much worse than getting clean that the struggle is worth the effort... regardless of the difficulty
