FUCK the motherfucking Greek embassy!

Seriously, I've been really patient so far but this is the last straw.

Basically we're trying to get our animals into the country with us when we move. We've got a rabbit and a pair of chinchillas, so we're unsure of what exactly we need to have for customs. My wife has been going in circles since she was in Bahrain a couple of months ago and I got involved a few weeks back. It's basically boiled down to a question regarding whether or not our animals need to have rabies vaccinations and this chip implant they usually put in dogs and cats. Nobody can seem to give us an answer.

So, I contact the embassy in DC. They tell me the consulate is at lunch and to call back after 2pm. I call back and ask for the consulate and this is what transpired:

Me: I'd like to speak to the consulate please.
Him: What do you need to speak to the consulate for?
Me: We're moving over there in a few weeks and I have a question regarding bringing some pets that are exotic into the country.
Him: Where are you moving from?
Me: Texas.
Him: Call the Houston office and go with whatever they say.
Me: Well that's the problem, we can't get an answer from them. Surely this is an answer that anyone at any embassy can give us.
Him: No, call the Houston office and go with whatever they say.
Me: No, you really don't understand, if we could get an answer I wouldn't be calling you on the phone. Can I please speak with the consulate?
Him: You have to go through the Houston office.
Me: You do realize that in the time it's taken you to argue with me, I could've obtained the answer to this question, right?

/hang up

I just submitted a formal complaint. Seriously, this fucking bullshit could potentially affect our move, which affects our financial situation and basically everything, all because these lazy fig eating FUCKS won't get off their ass to answer a simple Goddamn question. I mean who from an embassy hangs up on someone calling for information? Who the fuck do they think they are?

I feel sorry whoever is on the receiving end of my wife for this. I'm nothing to worry about but the mothership is about to go into War Mode. We'll be lucky if there's a Greece to move to after this.

dude, I know you luff your pets, but to let pets mess up a move to Greece is silly, imo.

plus, it sounds like they just don't know... I would refer to them as rabbits and chinchillas rather than "exotics".

It's exotic in the sense that they're not indigenous to Greece and introducing them in that environment, despite that they're housepets, could prove a disaster.

We are referring to them as rabbits and chinchillas, and we're not leaving them behind. You're being completely ridiculous Micah. Nobody would leave their pets behind. And like I said, we've been going at this for fucking months. It's not that they're not allowed in, we just need to have the appropriate paperwork to get them through customs. The problem is them not giving us the information that we need to have that paperwork after we've requested it about 80 times.

Furthermore it's not stopping us from moving, it's just holding it up in a major, major way. We will have to change packout dates, flight dates, possibly spend more in prorated rent, etc, all over two fucking questions that someone out there should be able to answer quite easily.

You know what? I haven't thought of that. I think Ash and Robbin might've moved to Austin already or I'd see if they'd go. That's a great idea. I'll see what my wife says when she's home. Thanks!

I think it's "completely ridiculous" to risk your "financial situation and basically everything" on a few animals.

I love my puppy, but if he stood in between me and my life advancing, he's gone. Not even a question there.

Congratulations, Miles - you've just gotten your first taste of European Bureaucracy. My folks live in Italy half the year, and have enough stories like this to fill a moderately popular blog.

Best advice I can give you is to stick to your guns and make sure all your paperwork is 10000% correct. Keep calling, and try sending them pizzas or flowers or something if you think it might help.
