Fuck You, John Denver

A little over ten years ago I had a very close friend in Colorado named Dan. His nickname was Stinky. He was dating a girl named Chantal from Quebec. Two of the nicest sweetest people I have ever known. We lived and worked together in Copper Mountain teaching Snowboarding and Skiing.

Every week when the new guests came to the resort we would do a welcome show at night featuring some comedy acts, dance routines, and live music. Stinky would always sing/play a John Denver song... Rocky Mountain High was the normal one he did.

Stinky and Chantal decided to get married on his family's farm in Virginia. They flew there and got married on a Saturday, then flew back to Copper Mountain on Sunday. On Monday they left to drive to Denver to get Chantal's paperwork started to become a legal citizen.

On the way to Denver, there as an accident that involved over 50 cars. A huge pileup. Chantal and Stinky were both thrown from their car and killed instantly. Another friend, Stewart, was in the back seat and survived.

I have had a lot of friends die in my life. AIDS, accidents, murder, brain aneurisms... you name it. I handle death pretty well and usually don't get too upset. It happens.

But to this day... when I hear a John Denver song... I bust into tears. This morning sucked bad when 'I'm Sorry' came on the radio.

So... Chantal and Stinky... I love you guys.
