That's such a pain in the ass dude, I just write these off as a learning experience and never go back (unless it's a ridiculous amount).

A server's time is much better spent serving food and liquor to the tables rather than doing menial paperwork.

at my restaurant, we only take 3 forms of payment regardless # persons....so if you have 20 heads, we'll only take 2 credit cards and cash or 3 credit cards total.

So, having guests sit at your table, that you could turn over... calculating their tabs for 45 minutes is a good thing?

Shit in some places you could turn a table in 45 minutes. No table turning = no tip.

When I worked at freaking Applebee's, our COMPUTER system would SPLIT THE TAB... EASY. It was so EASY! It didn't take any of my time.

Here are the facts... they pushed two tables together. Had two different parties been at those tables there would have been two tabs. Right? So they could have put 5 on one tab and 5 on another. But NNNOOOOOO... they want to be assholes and stick to the "no splitting tabs for parties of 8 or more".

So they pissed off a table that spent $900.00 in their establishment... ensuring that none of us will return to their craptastic restaurant.

These are the rules. Don't be pissy that the restaurant enforced them. Maybe they were short staffed and didn't have time to do your math. There are a multitude of reasons they wouldn't split it. When I go out with large parties I sure as hell take cash with me and don't expect someone to hold my hand when the bill comes.

I then pointed out that they need to get the software that Applebee's uses... because when I worked there I could split the check 20 ways... no problem.
