I don't agree that junkies will always be junkies. My best childhood friend was addicted to crack for 10 years and I never knew it. He's been clean and hasn't looked back in about 7 or 8. He also drinks occasionally but has no desire to revert back to what he was. I know quite a few people who came out ok in the end.

And unfortunately, most addicts stop maturing mentally when they become addicted to the drug. So if/when they DO become clean, it's like they are starting over where they left off in learning and growing and maturing.

Good luck, you two. Change those locks. Maybe even consider legal recourse if there is any. Getting locked up may be the only way for this guy to get clean and better himself, if that's possible.
