I have a friend who was with a guy for over a year. She found out about a nasty habit of his and he went to rehab. When he got out, he had found God and left her because he was better than her at that point (in his mind).

I understand enlightenment, but does that also include shutting out people? I feel awful for her. He didn't even give reasons for leaving and the couple of times they've talked he says he's praying for her.

I guess that's what rehab's all about... making someone think they're too good for the people who assisted them in getting help in the first place.

Although, it could have been suggested (or realized by him)that perhaps she was enabling him to continue these "nasty behaviors/habits". At which point, it probubly was best to go their separate ways. It doesn't even have to be her directly....perhaps she has ties with friends, or a scene that enable's his behavior. So instead of being a man and coming out with it, he pawn things of on religion.

I think people often replace addictions with dogmatic religious lifestyles. Just as addictive and you get the social acceptance, especially in a State like Texas where you have mega churches at every exit off the freeway. Both are just junk food for the psyche imo.

Unfortunately I have been around a hand full of addicts most of my life. In rehab they preach a lot about finding new friends because old ones can be "triggers" even if they are clean. Most addicts have no balance in their lives. They will either be shooting up dope or going to church every weds and sunday. This story sounds pretty typical of an addict.

Teehee yeah they are a bit more tolerable to be around when they are preaching jesus to you. You can just call them out on being fucked up and they will either shut up or deny it...
