I use to say "ewwww gross" really loud then he started saying "yum" after each burp so it made things worse to acknowledge it.

tell the close talker you can't understand him. ask him to take a step back and repeat himself. if he makes faces or asks questions, let him know you are uncomfortable when he's up in your space/face & it makes it impossible to hear him that close.
