I suppose it can or how bad the root was infected. Then again I also have a strong threshold for pain.

I requested pain killers, he said I should be ok because it wasn't like I had an absess (sp?) or anything.

I basically went in for a crown last week and when my dentist was preparing my tooth he noticed the root was exposed and in order to save the tooth I would need a root canal. I knew I was going to be in a lot of pain after that because I have super sensitive teeth so that's why I requested the pain killers. Dentist that did the root canal said take advil you'll be fine, and I reiterated that I have zero tolerance for pain in my mouth and super sensitive teeth and he said all I do is root canals, you'll be fine.

This morning I tried to eat something very soft on the other side of my mouth and the tooth above the one that had been worked on hit that tooth and sent a very shocking pain through my mouth. The whole getting the root canal was cake, went smoother than some fillings I've had done, I even ate while my mouth was still numbed up, but the aftermath is not pretty for me right now. Hell even getting my 4 impacted wisdom teeth surgically removed was easier than this shit!

Probably doesn't help that it is the last molar in the back of my mouth either.

I got my 1 and only root canal done at Monarch Dental. A year later the piece of root this piece of shit surgeon didn't get out turned into an abscess. After a year of dealing with the pain I went to get it looked at and found that they had to completely remove the tooth and left over root.

$2000 and a year later I had a new implant w/ steel rod in my gum line.

Moral of the story = MONARCH DENTAL SUX ASS!! Pay for a real dentist.

I had all 4 of mine out when I was 17. I had them put me under, because no way in hell I was gonna do that shit awake. Two of them were just pulled, but the other two had to be cut out. As long as you have a good dentist who doesn't scrimp on the anesthesia and the painkillers afterward, you should be fine. You will look like a chipmunk for a couple of days or so though. And just remember to buy lots of Ensure and soups and mushy foods, cuz you won't be eating solid food for a little while. Drinking milkshakes helps with the pain and the swelling, too. All in all, though, I think the few days after getting my braces on was a lot worse because I couldn't chew with ANY of my teeth as opposed to just having to avoid the back of my mouth.

ADD: Also, it's pretty gross when the stitches start to dissolve.

I have to get 2 root canals soon.... After my insurance it's $1600 something out of pocket. Is that a good deal? If anyone knows any reasonable dentists please pm me cause this shit sux!!

the whole wisdom tooth thing doesnt hurt, but use earplugs because i couldn't stand hearing them do it... that made me cringe more than any physical feeling

I paid $1100 out of pocket because I don't have insurance....so I guess it just depends on what your insurance covers and where you're going to get this done. The guy I went to is in Grapevine if you want a referral to check prices.


On the wisdom teeth thing....I had all 4 of mine impacted so I was put under to have them removed. I had super pain killers afterwards, but got a little sick from them. The one tip I did learn and forgot to use was to wet down some tea bags and put them over the stitches/holes where the teeth were removed and it will stop the bleeding. And don't smoke....you'll get a dry socket and it sucks worse than anything in the world. I was lucky and didn't get one but I was all up on the mouth wash for 2 weeks to make sure that didn't happen. Rinse after you eat, drink, smoke (if you do and if you do don't do it for the first two-three days) basically rinse with mouth wash anytime you stick something in your mouth.
