What happens in the world happens in the world and the ability to know when to step back from the world for a breather is just good business and smart for mental health.

Why do you think I am able to talk to both sides in A&P? It's not for a level of pandering or for shits and giggles, but it's because I listen to both sides (just as I do for most things). By that same token, there are some times where I have to totally remove myself for hearing the same ol tired drivel. Notice how I've been clamoring more and more for no love for Dem OR Rep?

It's not that I'm turning a blind eye to the world because I've not turned on my TV for a day or two. The news is still going to filter to me of the wrongs done, but I do like to give GOOD news just as fair a chance to arise as well. Like someone said, we do tend to become cynical after looking at the drama and grief that make the news on the daily.

look man, people die everyday. very few will be close to you and most won't be.

as terrible of a time as the families and friends of those that die have had, are having, and will have, it does not mean it affects my life and that I should put on a front of sadness for their loss. At most they get my sympathy even when I wouldn't expect anything from anyone if I found myself in their shoes.

I'm tired of people crying over some random loss of life that has nothing to do with them and then turn around and joke about somalia's or brazil's state of affairs. it's hypocrisy and it's wrong.

you wish to be a hypocrite and pick and choose what you feel bad about and what you find funny, knock yourself out. At least I know I hold no double standard and my humor extends to even the worst times in my own life. I can laugh it all off equally, albeit some events with given enough time.

As to picking and choosing what I feel bad about, we all do that on the daily, so I don't see the hypocrisy in that at all. If by limiting my news intake on the whole is that, then so be it.

Bad shit happens...everyday...anywhere and anywhere. not worth getting worked up unless it's my mom dying or someone close.

same reason it kills me when some white girl goes missing it and they plaster it on TV while thousands of young girls are sex trafficked/killed in asia/eastern europe

I cry when I watch a lot of this stuff online. I don't care if that makes me "weak" in the eyes of a couple of dudes who think there's some sort of value in being jaded and indifferent to the suffering of others unless it directly impacts them. I think the more people you love in the world, and the more deeply you love them, the more the tragic things that happen to others impact you on an emotional level. When I was in my teens, I didn't give a flying fuck about anyone or anything. Somehow thought it made me more enlightened or liberated than people who do. I don't miss it. Not one bit. Giving a shit is a lot harder, granted, but I rather like the soft side I've slowly developed over the years. It allows me to feel happiness more deeply as well.

I totally know the feeling, I was beginning to think that is just how life is but things do turn around at some point. its hard to remember to think about all the good things in your life and it sucks when life makes it hard not to take those things for granted.

If you want to feel sadness every moment of your life because there is always something bad happening in the world, be my guest! just realize that unless you feel sadness every time something bad happens to someone (all the time), that you're a hypocrite
