Islam is a religion of peace, and I fail to see how the actions of a few extremists reflect on the religion as a whole. the guy went crazy. he built up his opinions through years and years of seeing the horrible reality of war working with us soldiers coming home. if anything, the military needs to do a better job of identifying these risks/ risky behavior, statements by its own. when he got orders to get deployed it sent him over the edge. he got a lawyer and tried everything not to go. this is a tragic scenario that could happen to any number of people on the edge regardless of their religion. apparently the bashing and mocking he received by his fellow service men didn't help matters. this tragedy is part of the larger consequences of war.

the BIBLE, particularly the OT has many instances of God telling the israelites to commit genocide, take slaves, take virgins, and punish their pagan/non-believer neighbors. the bible, just like the koran, can be viewed as a quite a violent and intolerent book.
