In a sense, yes it is. It's kinda dorky but a lot of people will just do the curtain as a joke, or post the laughing face like I tried to do at something funny, or show their excitement for something by putting the banana, etc. That is one great thing about the smilies, it makes it to where you don't have to write a lot to get your point accross, at least that is what I do.

I know it sounds dumb but it takes away a lot of the funny moments that makes DDM what it is. The cornyness and quirkiness that keeps many of us coming back day to day.

I see where you are coming from in a way. But I find it hard to believe that someone would stop coming to our site because they had to type more than 10 characters in a post. Lots of people have already figured out how to circumvent it and just put one smiliey and nothing else. I think the benefit of reducing bumps all over the site and reducing the effort of us having to lock bumps outweighs the convenience of short replies in UB.
