an idea from another posting board

on another board I am on, once someone has signed up they are restriceted to, what they call The Intruduction" forum until they create a thread say "hi I'm new" or what not then a mod grants them access to post on the rest of the board (usually takes about a day)

I think this might help cut down on trolls (maybe not)

but atleast I could un-welcome each one as they come through

you can also allow only one username per ip. or, i can't remember if this one does or not, activate through your e-mail only one per account. some do some don't.

unfortunately this is such an open site that none of these are needed unless they clamp down the forum axx which they shouldn't do anyways.

edit: ok so the e-mail thing is already set up. btw ADMINS please delete suckmcpoopants thnx. it matches this ip and i am not going to activate it.

Yeah, as you pointed out, the email thing in already in place. That being said, the trolls on here rely on alternate email addys.

The IP ban thing is only so useful. Many people are on here from school or other public computers. Banning that IP would restrict otherwise ok users.

Tim really has one of the only ways to restrict the trolls and I personally don't feel like messing with something that extensive. As a general rule, we try to get to the trolls before they cause too much dirty business. Some users even notify us in the event a troll is being especially disruptive. Some trolls even grow up & become "productive" members of the board...DaRaveSlave comes to mind on this one.

Bottom line, if you have a true issue with a suspected troll on here, shoot one of the mods a PM & we'll look into it. We can't just block people you don't like (in spite of what some people think) but real bullshit should be dealt with.

With this site being as open as it is this would not be feasible. The moderation of that alone would cause our mods brains to hemmhorage. I think the idea behind it is a good one but it wouldn't work for DDM.

the best thing to do for trolls is just ignore the ones you don't like. most of them are stupid anyways and go away quick. some stay and some become pretty active over their parent handle. either way i don't think anyone has been physically hurt or pulled an "everquest"(suicide) behind one.

you want to get real crazy start making this htaxx with approval from the mods, admins. lol thus forcing them to verify ip's since all of them are public anyways. or even without the htaxx. still too much trouble for a dance forum that doesn't really provide important info(you know what i mean)
