It seems we have a slight dilemma around here lately. It's one thing trying to be funny and post fake drama threads, but it's another thing altogether for people to post slanderous, hurtful things on this board for no other reason than to do harm to others. I have a suggestion, one that people probably won't agree with, but one that I feel I need to throw out there in light of recent events. Charge. Yeah, I said it. Perhaps the admins should start charging people a fee to register new accounts here. Sure, there are plenty of reasons not to, but I think the argument in favor of it is a little stronger. Charging a small fee of perhaps 5 dollars to create a screenname would weed out the potential trolls before they even posted, even if it's only because it's a pain in the ass to fill out a credit card/paypal form - well, moreso than just thinking of a screenname and typing it in. It's impossible to regulate all these trolls using just IP bans, because people can post from anywhere, be it school, the library, a friend's house, wherever. But if you charged only 5 dollars to register a name, the people who consistently register trolls for pussy-ass reasons will stop because it would eventually get pretty expensive. I say let those of us who already have accounts go ahead and keep them for free, but when somebody fucks up, ban him or her. If the violation is not too gross, you could simply restrict posting for a set amount of time or give a warning. Of course, there will have to be detailed guidelines and rules laid out as to what consists of trolling, slander, etc., and what can be taken as a joke. Things like threats of physical violence, harassment in PMs, and outright slanderous bullshit should be bannable offenses. Now that I think of it, the rules don't need to be very detailed - just don't be a dick. Lots of sites charge for registration. Lots of sites don't, too, but things have gotten out of hand around here. It's been said before that 'It's just the internet', but DDM is not just the internet. We are a very close-knit community of people who live, work, and play in the same area, who know a lot of the same people, and who often see each other IRfuckingL at least on a weekly basis. I recommend a small amount like 5 dollars because it's affordable, and if someone really wants to contribute to our community but doesn't have a credit card, there will more than likely be someone they know who will loan them 5 e-dollars; but, like I said, it will get too expensive for trollers who keep getting banned. How many people have deleted their accounts in the past, say, 6 months? I don't know the exact answer, and I don't know the statistics, but I'm willing to be that it's more than have deleted in any other 6 month period. And it's been some pretty major players in our scene, too, like Amber and Sarah; and Kelle Marie is considering leaving. Something has got to be done. If we charge for enrollment, not only will the site benefit financially (which it deserves for providing the calendar, the front page, chat, and even hosting hoards of our stupid pictures), but it will become a decent online community. I think this is the only way to get rid of the trolls, assholes, and negative fucksticks who contribute nothing but drama and negativity to this site as well as our sceeeeene.

That's a great idea. Not sure if it could be done, but GREAT none the less.

Sorry for the late response... Thanks for the idea but we really honestly don't think that charging would work out too well. Most people barely want to pay for a weekly, why would they want to pay for a website? ![]() Also, we're not in Dallas, if we charge we'd have to do it right by setting it up as an official business and whatnot, and honestly it's too much work for us right now. Why should we let a few assholes ruin it for everyone else and have people pay. usually trolls end up going away so it's definitely not worth it in my eyes. I'd go on with more stuff but I think you get my drift. Quote:

I like that idea... but you took the words right out of my mouth. You might have to have a 'Save The DDM' benefit or something... for a bunch of people who still wouldn't pay to join.

thank you. it sucks, but sometimes the truth stings a bit. ... and FYI - it's spelled 'Douche'. It's a French word meaning 'shower'. It can be used in reference to stage lighting or to various forms of personal hygene. I look forward to meeting you at Tasleem's party!!!! Have a great day! Ahh, the good old "correct-the-spelling-to-attempt-to-change-the-subject." If you read the post I made for your benefit in your thread in RR & C, you would have noticed that I took a shot at your ego, big guy. The truth doesn't sting when it comes from someone who comes across as pompous as you do. Your holier than thou attitude spoils any attempt to give any form of constructive criticism. You want to be constructive, swallow your ego. "When I did this, when I did that, I've been around 50 years, I play every night of the week, blah, blah, blah." At that point, you lost the audience. I have no clue who you are or what you have done or how long you have been around, nor do I care. I've never heard your name outside of DDM, and I'm no hermit by any means. You want to give "intelligent criticism?" Start with yourself. You need to read your little DDM handle and realize that's what you are. Just Mike. Nothing more, nothing less. At that point, your contributions might become productive. |

They could have it at Crave. But I guess you'd criticize about that too. Then delete it.
