Car audio geeks

Help me.

I wanna get a car stereo for the Mr.

I would like to see him have new speakers too. He's got a full size truck...he doesn't have an iPod...but I would consider an MP3 capable. I don't wanna spend an arm and a leg.

I hear Best Buy has free installation (still??) but I don't want to go shopping until I have a better idea of what is involved cause I don't want some salesshark up my ass to get me to spend a lot.

you need to step back and decide what you are going to purchase because based on your comments i can tell you don't know whats up. i mean that in a nice way. decide if you just want to replace his deck and if so do you want an amp? also, do you then want to replace the other stock speakers, etc....have a budget and stick to it....fuck best buy....i would recommend earmark if you want quality salespeople that know what they are talking about.

remember you get what you pay for. maybe accomplish this all in steps too.

No, I agree. I seriously do NOT know what's up. I don't want anything too fancy to basically say "hey, break in and steal me." but I want something that is going to sound great. He says the speakers sound like shit...so I assume I should look into getting him new ones.

I just figured if I was gonna get him a nice cd player/radio I could get him one with an MP3 player, because I can foresee one in the future.

Earmark...okay, cool.

Thanks!

Id look at some Alpine head units They have some middle line ones for around $160 with ipod control and Mp3 As far as new speakers Im assuming you mean midrange door speakers always remember the front ones are more important than the rears (front stage)so if your going to buy him some Id just buy them for the front

they won't fuck you over. and they do good installations. just so you know most audio is concealed these days so they can't tell what the fuck you have. i would recommend just getting a new deck and some new speakers. fuck the amp for now unless you have the money. by getting quality stuff you can build on it but if you buy shit then later if you want to make it better you have to replace it. if that makes sense. good luck.

see since i spend alot of time driving and listening to music so this type of investment is well worth it for me since my car audio gets played much more than when i'm at home. thats my take on it anyway.

Thanks Juan...I was wondering if I needed all that stuff like what was mentioned in the link that DJ Illmatick posted:

Equipment Cost:

Head Unit - $0-$150
Amplifier - $200
Speakers - $150-$250
Subwoofer(s) - $80-$200
Wiring/Enclosure - $100
------------------------
$530-$900
Installation - $0(Do-It-Yourself)-$250
TOTAL - $530-$1,150

kalamu...it's not going to be a huge investment, but he has NOTHING in his truck right now. And that would drive me insane. He loves his cd's...and he's got an amazing collection of hard to find crap that he doesn't get to listen to on his own time. Cause believe me...he needs his own time to listen to some of that stuff cause mama no likey!

face plates come off, displays tuck in, etc. sub enclosures are in the walls or trunk.

yeah you will eventually....but like i said - start in steps. get the deck and speakers first to make the most notable initial impact for listening and then you can later beef it up with amps for power and subs for kick
