o i agree with you allot of people say one thing and do another which is really sad, but my point is that a large portion of that 85% of the population still base a majority of there actions upon their beliefs . the rest just plain dont care they know things are wrong but yet still do them but that is a whole other topic.

Well, attending church every Sunday isn't what makes you Christian. In fact, there's a lot of church goers who are not Christian.

Either way, that number baffles me. I had no idea that many people claimed the christian faith.

Well, my point was that I suspect a large number of people just said "Christian" as a knee-jerk response when asked what religion they affiliate themselves with whether or not they actually are practicing Christians or go to church. It's the "default" religion in the U.S.

This is true.. However, we are also a democratic nation full of mostly protestants. It was eons before we would even vote in a Catholic (Kennedy, if I'm not mistaken, was the first non-Protestant president)

I hate to do this on a forum when I could be OH so intelligent, witty, and snide, but this calls for a "YOU ARE COMPLETELY FUCKING WRONG" drop.

To say that a nation is a "Christian country" asserts that this nation is run according to a religious dogma that is enforced on its occupants. If you modified your statement and said, "The majority (which is eroding every year at an alarming rate) religion observed in America is Christianity," you would at least be on reasonable grounds for being heard in a debate. As it is, you just sound like someone who doesn't know what the fuck they're talking about.
