as a little kid, i picked fruits & vegetables on weekends. my dirty secret is that i learned to drive a stick shift on a tractor before i was even ten. my favorite was picking blackberries at my neighbor's farm...yum. by highschool i was still defying child labor laws and selling things at a monthly festival/flea market thingy (which is why i can sell icecubes to eskimos now, i trained with frikkin carnies!).

when i could legally work i did summers for the social security administration. worked a different non-profit the next summer. during school year i was a pharmacy technician and stayed with that through the first years of college.

i went to college at night during high school in addition to working jobs. even when i'd moved to dallas i still went back to the country for 2 days a month to make easy flea market money. so ya, i took ten years off before finishing my degree. i deserved a little break.

(is it no wonder i'm a workaholic?)

Alright if we are going back past high school and talking about child labor then my real job was working in the fields up in Minnesota. My family were migrants and we would go up and work during in the summer. I also worked in the South Texas agriculture picking onions, watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumber, and cabbage. Onions were bad cuz I would smell like onions forever. Cabbage sucked because it was usually in the winter and by the end of the day I could no longer feel my hands from digging them into the ground all day.

My dad was a truck driver and some times he would bring home excess products that had to be offloaded at weighing ramps. He brought home all kinds of stuff. Razor blade refills, stereos, warm-ups, canned food, and etc. He always gave it to me and I would sell it. I would go out to this flea market outside of Eagle Pass and set up shop with my grandparents. Its where I learned to have excellent customer service skills and sales skills.

Hah...I gave it back when I quit...I think if I didn't they would've subtracted something outrageous like $50 from my $200 paycheck.
