High School Reunions

Who's been and how was it?

I just got an invite for my 20 year. Haven't gone to any others prior.

The first two years of high school I was pretty quiet and hung out with my few select friends who were either breakers/rappers, gay, goth, or nerdy. The last two years of high school I was friends with a lot of the cheerleaders and popular hot chics, mainly because I was really good friends with one of them... but I doubt I have anything in common with them now.

I can't decide if I want to go to this or not. The curiosity of what these people look and act like is what draws me to it. I can almost guarantee I am one of the only ones who acts, dresses, and lives the lifestyle that I do. Most of them will be professionals who are married and have kids.

Decisions... decisions.

until I can roll up to mine in a SL500 AMG I won't be going. Otherwise I have no interest in seeing people I didn't give two shits about 20 years ago.

That's kinda how I feel... but now something is peaking my curiosity.

and it's not at my high school... it's at a really nice hotel on Clear Lake next to NASA.

I wonder if there is a charge? That would be a deal breaker. I don't want to shell over $100 to see those people for a laugh. I'll go to a comedy show for that.

There are a select few that I lost touch with and would like to see just for kicks.

I've haven't been, but my problem is I don't remember much about anyone.

I recognize them, but I don't remember anything about them, what classes we had, who they hung out with, etc... . I blame drugs on this or the fact that alzheimer's is setting in really early.

most of the people I went to high school peaked in high school. I know this because every time I see them they try to keep reminding me of certain events, places, people and cherish those as if they were the best times of their lives....which they were.

I can think of a few diseases I'd rather have than see anyone I went to high school with again. Well, anyone aside from Jenny aka Ze Big Finger. She's cool. All of the other idiots can die in a bus fire.

My ten year is coming up in 2010. I went to Keller and I'm going to say NO thanks to any reunion. I was that fat kid that nobody liked until I was a Jr/ Sr. (I keep in touch with only a few people) I'm actually going to see a shit load of people in April for a wedding that is in Keller...so that will be enough.

I went to my first reunion (10 year) and never went again. 2006 was my 25 year reunion and they wanted $250 to attend. I told them to stuff it and spent the $250 on a great dinner with my wife at 3 Forks.

I was disappointed because:
1. Some people I wanted to see didn't attend.
2. Some people who were popular in school were just as shallow and rude as adults
3. People seemed to go out of their way to impress each other with their money, status, trophy spouse, whatever.

I got the little book they put together with people's names and addresses in it and then looked up the people I wanted to see. That's how I have done it ever since; I get together with the folks that still live in DFW, and see the other friends when I am near their homes out of state. Reunions, in my opinion, are a scam.

seriously, an old high school associate sent me a friend request from myspace a while back asking me if I remember all the fun we had together. I couldn't remember them for the life of me, but as you can see below, this is why I won't be reuiniting with my high school buddies.

Most of the people I was friends with back then are still friends... and most were either a year older or a year younger, so they won't be there anyway.

And most of the people I went to school with left for college right after. I went into radio and a year after high school I was working as a DJ at one of the top rock stations in the US. All these people came back from college and had no clue what they wanted to do with their lives, while I had my dream job. Then I picked up and went to live in the islands for 6 years and came back to the same radio station. Sure, most of them probably make a ton of more money than I do, but I guarantee I have lived a much more fulfilling life... and I still do to this day.

Decisions... decisions...

I guess the whole cost thing will be the deciding factor.
