When you use parallels XP runs in virtual machines so viruses cant touch the HD. When you use boot camp it puts XP on tis own partition and doesn't allow windows to touch the OSX portion so its safe from viruses.

Windows on a Mac is the safest way to run windows. Even PC magazine rated the new Mac pros as the fastest Vista capable machines in the market today.

I wouldn't guarantee as maybe something has changed, but I do find it quite unlikely that manufacturers aren't still making drivers for their new hardware for XP

Not necessarily. The laptop I bought recently only has Vista drivers for the sound card. It won't work in XP, period.

Ok, let me tell you a few thing from experience.
A. New laptops come with Vista and MOST people have discontinued support for downgrading directly online. BUT i know HP will help you go through a grueling phone convo with some outsourced place in India to get you the "equivalent" drivers you need for XP.

B. Dell offers new laptops with XP but it is their base model something or other and by the time you upgrade to get decent stuff it cost a rediculous amount.

C. good luck with Vista downgrading, like above i would suggest getting a macbook and run both Leopard and XP. XP actually runs better on a mac than on other laptops.

i didn't read through all of this but if i got the jist of it you want to downgrade to xp on a new laptop . Sorry if you disagree john but not only is it possible but ive seen it with my own 4 eyes. Talk to tommy (twomasoul) . J.caprices old roommate (who just recently moved) took vista off his comp and mine and we both use wireless with no problem at all . I dont know the exact science of how he went about it but it is possible . With that being said , like i said i didnt read the whole thing , so if john said this very thing in any other post.Disregard this and have a great day

if the windows update recognizes the hardware driver, then it will install the driver... in that case you are lucky, because most of the time in the system device list you'll get stuck with an unrecognized yellow question mark.

the correct answer is tell the store you buy it from that you want XP on it and they are required to put XP on it
