hair...

tho it WAS pink/red...it is now very much calico... dammit

so Cyberina...what was that "sealant" if you will that you told me of?
was it made by ManicPanic as well?

any ideas to keep the color longer? i want to keep it that vivid color for as long as i can + it has a groovy effect to it that i will not get with any other type of hair dye....

yeah...i used to use punky die & manic panic, like 10 yrs. ago.... strayed from dying my hair at all for the past 3-4yrs....then caught breeze in my drawls & decided to go for it again... i had a feeling "semi-permanent" meant 2wks LOL! ( memories fade) as for re-bleaching... I know it'll fry it even more, maybe i should just dread it leave it the flaming warm hues it is... i dont know... it was just so purdy all fushia & shit *sighs*

c'est la vie - but, Sabrina had mentioned a sealer of sorts...does that ring a bell? maybe i should shlaq my hair

I get red highlights. They always fad within two weeks. I am tired of paying $60.00 to have my hair re-done. I usually do it myself in b/t my trips to the salon. I do burgundy myself. The end tend to fade 1st & it's ugly. I went to Sally's yesterday and bought red dye. Kevin will try an do it for my next time.

This is the "clear coat" i was talking about:
http://www.sallybeauty.com/on/demand...pid=SBS-320619

Obviously, they carry it at Sally's.

Its by Clairol, its their Radiance line, and its the Clear Gloss (there are colors in that line, too, but you want it dye-free). Make sure you get the developer that comes in that line, too, because its not a peroxide-based dye, and so normal developer doesn't do it good.. Essentially, you are glazing your hair with this stuff, which helps not only to seal in the veggie dye on your hair, but it also helps to make your hair healthier after bleach trauma.

Also helps to colorfast the dye. There are lots of organic ways of doing that, which are generally safe to put on your head.. You can look up colorfasting tie dye for lots of hippy tips there.

Also helps tons if you choose a manic panic color that is as deep or deeper than your natural hair color. After bleaching to bright red for years, I switched to their dark purple and found I didn't have to bleach my hair at all anymore for the color to take. It made it fade more evenly, too.

Dye just stains your hair... Warm water, like with your clothes, takes out stains quicker. Wash your hair with the coldest water you can personally stand, and it will help it last longer.

Here's what I used to do:

- Dye hair with bright, fun, zaniness
- Rinse out in kinda cold water until it stopped coloring the water
- Rinse with vinegar water.. I'd clean out a plastic milk jug really well, fill it with water, and added vinegar to smell... As much as I could stand without feeling pickled.
- Shampoo (color-safe shampoos help)
- Dry my hair, and then follow the instructions for the clear gloss

When I did it that way, the veggie dye would not bleed on my face and my pillow at night, and I wouldn't fade too badly before I had roots.

Actually, when I stopped bleaching.. my hair would fade out kinda cool. The oils from my scalp would kinda strip some of the hues out of the purple at my roots, and damaged ends would fade out as the same hues as my roots. The end product of fading was deep magenta roots and ends that faded quickly into royal purple hair.

Filler is da bomb too.. Best to do it between the bleaching and adding of the veggie dye.

They carry filler at Sally's, too. It comes in a little 1 oz squirt bottle, and its a fairly thin liquid.

I tried the filler, and I could tell it repaired my hair some, but it also added body, which I don't need. I picked it up at sally's for like $3.

I personally love the loreal "for dark hair only" stuff! I don't have to bleach my hair to get a good red color....
