and that whole 'leave your morals at the door' stance doesn't make any sense, imo. speaking as an artist myself, why would i ever want to engage in project that i see as immoral? how is that being true to myself? maybe im misunderstanding you here...?? it's like "hey, i think stealing from people is wrong. but, i'm going to jack people at atm machines by bashing them over the head with a baseball bat, taking their cash, and then i'm gonna watch them lay bloody and cashless on the concrete...and i'm going to film it and call it art." that makes no sense to me.

lol - Brandon you crack me up so amazingly alliterative of you... It is not aribtrary at all. Getting pregnant to kill the baby as art is not morally defensible. What would arbitrary would be saying... well... I would not kill my babies and smear them on the wall as art but if she doesn't have a problem with it then... ok. I'm doubt you're going to find reasonable people defending her actions as moral. |

But for blatant examples of insulting stupidity, I usually turn more promptly to the mass media before the art scene.

one needn't look far in either it seems these days I appreciate what you're saying regarding art that attempts to invoke a reflective response... but I think there are lines and peices that simlpy wish to blur or jump over that line lose sight of provoking reflection and merely provoke... that's not art to me.. its a punch in the nose

The Yale Daily News breathlessly informed us of a female student, art major Aliza Shvarts, who claimed that her senior art project was a documentation of nine months of self-induced miscarriages. Her goal, of course, was to "spark conversation" about "the relationship between art and the human body." What is really the truth with this so-called "art" project, though, is that Shvarts has pulled the wool over the eyes of the Yale Daily News, the willing dupes who claim to be her professors, and anyone reading this story on Drudge and believing she really induced her own miscarriages. It's all a hoax. Or if not an outright hoax, it’s a misleading tale of a girl who hasn't a clue about how one becomes pregnant, what the fake drugs she took are really capable of doing, and the psychological pain of a real miscarriage. It's also proof that our sources of news rarely if ever employ any common sense in how they write up the news. A tiny bit of logic put to this story of "self-induced miscarriages" would reveal it to be all stuff and nonsense. But, no, what we get instead is the story reported as if it is fact and not the cynical efforts of a kid that just wants her 15 minutes of fame. It is also proof that the liberal side of the abortion debate leads the ideological mindset of the news. |

she's not squishing the dead fetuses in the plastic, only the blood that came out during the miscarriages. plus, the article doesn't say how far along into the pregnancies she was when she started taking those pills to induce the miscarriages. personally, i find this "art" to be disgusting and disturbing, not to mention completely irresponsible and selfish. i fail to see any beauty on any level. |

lots of people have used body fluids to mix in paint, from yoko to that guy who asked the NEA for "milk" money. other people use weird body parts like their teeth or breasts (i tried that one just like brigid polk). heck hunter thompson & william burroughs didn't even use brushes. they just set up cans of paint in front of canvases and shot at them to apply paint. i frequently admit that seeing uncle bill's work at the webb gallery in waxahachie was a MAJOR influence on my decision to start shooting at my art. but i try to recognize it as a deconstruction tool. it is very destructive. & if you aren't careful about tools of destruction, you'll destroy yourself. 9 months of miscarriages (real or fake) would pretty much ruin her body and would probably take hormones to happen in the first place (i didn't read the article cause its NSFW in content)
