![]() | Yeah, see Clinton presided over a colassal world oil glut.... ask David Austin if you don't believe me. When the world's awash in oil the economies of many non oil revenue dependant states goes up... quickly. Cheap energy is a great economic stimulus.

I don't like it... but I think we all need to stop bitching. I'm not really sure how we justify bitching about $3.50 a gallon when the rest of the world is paying maybe $8 a gallon. It's unbelieveable how much they pay compared to the USA. Personally, I will like it if it keeps going up. There will be LESS SUV's on the road (gawd I hate fucking assholes in SUV's). More people riding bikes (so they might not want to kill me as much when I ride mybike). And cities will provide better mass transit options if people are wanting to use it.

Its only $100 a barrel more today than the day Bush took office. Remember one of his big campaign speeches was "If you elect Al Gore your going to be paying $3.50 to $4.00 a gallon for gas!" Looks like he had things a little backwards as always.

Overall I think that its foolish to believe that Al Gore would have resulted in higher gas prices than what we got as a result of the Bush presidency.

The company I work for makes gas price signs. Last week we made the decision to make the price advertise up to $6.99. (It used to only go up to $4.99 prior to this). Hope we don't get owned that bad.

Has anyone stopped to think maybe we pay too many taxes on gas? I mean the government makes more money off the sales of gas then the oil companies do and they do nothing to provide it. They don't drill, pump, ship, store, refine, deliver, etc. Why does the governement make more off of oil then the oil companies and why doesn't anyone say anything about that? Why isn't it on the news? Why does the government then place almost impossible to meet regulations on the oil companies and then fine them when they can't meet them. The big bad oil companies is all I hear about but why? Sounds to me like our own governement is putting pump to pooper too and then passing the blame that should be shared. I say have local and federal government cut taxes on gas during peak seasons to help out if they're not going to do anything else about it.

electric vehicles is the way of the future unfortunately the development of batteries and more efficient and powerful electric motors and the development of ultra capacitors was placed on the back burner so to speak so they are just now starting to really delve into these areas. unfortunately there was no interest in these modes of transportation previously when gas prices were low, but now that gas prices are on the rise they are working very hard to develop these technologies further. Fuel cells are cool, but I dont believe they will be as efficient as an electric vehicle with a new and robust battery system to keep it going. most battery powered vehicles are able to go about 300 miles now, and with the new technologies in lithium ion batteries they are able to charge them up completely in under half an hour... http://www.gizmag.com/go/5228/ <- Faster charging Li-Ion batteries 2006 http://www.gizmag.com/toshiba-scib-s...-battery/8506/ <- Toshiba announcing fast charging Li-Ion batteries 2007 http://www.gizmag.com/go/5192/ <- ultra capacitors 2006 http://www.gizmag.com/go/8281/ <- Subaru's fast charging 124mile per charge concept car http://www.gizmag.com/tesla-roadster...oduction/9002/ <- 130+MPH 210+ mile electric sports car from Tesla Motors oh, and for those that might say that electric vehicles will cause just as much or more pollution due to the fact that we have to plug them in to charge which uses power from polluting oil, coal, and nuclear electric plants consider this... http://www.gizmag.com/energy-positiv...er-dubai/9192/ They are making a new tower in Dubai that has the ability to harness wind energy going through and around it to produce enough electricity to power the tower, and the neighborhood surrounding it... I think we'd pay the same whether GW or Gore was in office... I think the biggest factor is increased demand in Asia (then bottled necked refining capacity and the deflated dollar - not sure in which order) | ||
