If House is a feeling, what feeling would that be?

I've always been intrigued by that phrase. Trance (at least not the watered-down kind) is pretty obvious what the emotional response is. Other genre names, like drum-and-bass or electro point to how it sounds. It seems like trance is the only genre with a name that points to an emotion.

Ok, I know, I know, what's in a name. So tell me, what is that feeling that people think of when someone says, "House is a feeling".

I have my own take but what is yours?

For real though, to me house feels like home. I almost equate it to what the womb might be like. All warm and cozy, with mom's ever present, steady heart beat setting life to a rhythm.

For me house is about happiness and love. I've been so uplifted by it at times I've actually shed a few tears of joy. When I get that overwhelming sensation of joy, to me, it's even more intense and pleasurable than sex (and trust me, I love sex). It just warms my heart when I hear it. Puts me at peace. Something about it just connects with me on so many levels. Makes me feel powerful, energized.

It can also get so funky that I just have to jack my body, no matter where I am. My car is basically a mobile disco. I was at this coffee shop just the other day listening to some new shit on Stompy with my headphones on and I caught myself several times bobbin' my head, stompin' my foot, and groovin' my torso in my chair. I realised ppl were watching. lol

I love the whole style of house. I love how househeads look. How they dance. How they act. I love how the people who are into house are so friendly and approachable. I love how you can bring your girl to a house show and not have to worry about her getting groped or fucked with. House is a friendly place. It's sophisticated. It's sexy. It's sweaty. It's flirty. It's playful. It's dirty. Its so many things.

Well put, Matt. I would also add the word 'family' in there as well. Go to a good house show and be prepared to be approached by anyone and to be able to approach anyone. No attitude, no BS... just friendly good times. People may joke and laugh about that, but there's no other scene that I have ever found that is quite the same.

That last sentence is what really encapsulates it all for me. A good house tune makes zombies, mass murderers, and the Cloverfield monster at your door seem alright.
