He probably has (grand)parents that use/used the terms colored, oriental, wetback, etc.

My Grandmother (who was born and raised in the South) still uses those lovely terms to describe anyone that isn't 'white'. We've all tried to talk to her at one point or another but that's how she was raised and she doesn't see why it would be offensive.

So, perhaps the guy that came into your store doesn't feel that it's offensive, it's just the only way he knows how to describe someone of another race.

I've got family in Blanco, Texas.. who still use the word "Nigger" on a regular basis. This is my mother's side of the family. For a few years she refused to talk to her brother because he was such a racist. But, she eventually got over it. Her anger over it wouldn't change them.

Can't wait to bring my latin boyfriend down there for the holidays.

I call my best friend Blackie, too. I find that funny as well.

He calls me Cracker which isn't as funny as Blackie, but still a bit amusing.

He used to call me something a bit more vulgar and funny, but I'm not posting that on a public forum. lol
