| Moving to Houston
Well guys its been fun (not really) but I am taking a promotion and moving to Houston in December. I will be transferring to the House of Blues out there and working the Foundation Room. Should be a nice change I hope. Anybody have any good advice for moving there? Any cool places I should check out?

Congrats on your promotion, but it's going to suck living in a city that's inferior to Dull-ASS. All the best though. Hope it works out. And as for all things Houston, check with Roos, AudriUnHip, and Rufus.

Wow, long time no see, Julie. Good luck on Houston - from what I hear it's pretty much a wasteland down there, with the exception of the Silo parties.

Houston rocks. You're going to love it. And lol at the above comment. Houston has a shitload more culture than Dallas does. It is far from a wasteland. There are so many great places to live in Houston proper, and there's tons of cool little theme bars and whatnot on Westheimer. It has it's own uptown and arts district, as well as the funky little strip like Greenville Ave. I don't really know about raving it up on the weekends, but I've found so many awesome restaurants, museums, quaint little dive bars, etc..., not to mention the ballet, outdoor theatre (think: Shakepeare in the park but with more variety), opera, etc...since I've been here and I've barely had a chance to even make it out. The layout of downtown resembles Dallas quite a bit. There are parts of driving around here that I could swear I was still there. I guess I don't judge a city entirely by its rave scene. lol I do love Numbers on Friday nights though. Oh, and the other thing I've found amusing here is that people talk just as much shit about Dallas here as people in Dallas talk shit about Houston. I'm kind of curious how all of this got started. People in Houston consider people in Dallas to be too shallow and uptight, and that they have way too much attitude. They also think the clubs and whatnot suck there, but mostly because of the people.

P.S. If you can find a way out tonight, NUMBERS' 30th anniversary is TONIGHT! I was almost tempted to make it, but that is a lot of driving in two days for a one night event. To Julie: Hit me up if you have any questions. Prepare to be hot a lot of the time, to be hit on by every black dude between Greenspoint Mall to Mall of the Mainland (thanks to the NO evacuees migrating to Houston), and some serious learning time on new roads. The flip to that is that unlike Dallas, you have MORE roads to choose from that offer multiple backroads to get to the places you want to go. Houston even has LOOPS THAT WORK. THAT'S RIGHT! One of them they don't even charge you for! SHOCKING! You will have the ability to still escape to Austin when you chose, a REAL HOB that gets some top dollar draws, access to Cynthia Mitchell Woods Pavilion for the shows that happen to miss HOB, HOUSE OF PIES (OMG you have to go there), and seafood at a decent price for days (since you are close to the Gulf now). Good luck, girl! | |

I was always under the assumption that Houston was a shithole myself. THe one time I went it did seem really dirty. Now that the city is flooded with refugee's my opinion is significantly lower. Just my opinion.

How can you have an opinion when you've only been here once? Was it for a rave? Might explain the dirty thing. Those were never exactly held in the greatest parts of town. lol But, yeah, there are shitty parts of town just like in Dallas. Only difference is the nice parts are a lot bigger and more diverse. |

Houston suburbs suck. The Woodlands, Kingwood, River Oaks...etc. All those master planned communities are a joke. Little boxes on the hillside, little boxes made out of ticky tacky. Ick. I suppose if you like living in a McDonalds Land, it would be right up your alley. |
