Well under Clinton the unemployment level was 5.5% and we were told that we were at full employment, now with the "bad economy" we are at 5.7% unemployment and "told all is woe."

Make up your mind...

Edit: I don't mean you specifically, just the perverbial If a Dem is in charge economy is good when employment is around 5.5% to 6% and growing, however, if a Repub is in charge it's bad. All this is, of course, ignoring how much of a role, not much of one, the pres plays in the economy.

i never told anyone that our economy was going gangbusters.

just that its not as dire as people make it out be in the big scheme of things

it could easily be if a few more cards fell though...

my issue with umalak is that he equates this all to a single man/presidency when there have been a great number of forces at work.

but what gets me is that conservatives make such a strong effort to stay blind to their crumpling surroundings around them - they are so hard-headed that it seems it would take another great depression before they admitted that things really were getting and did get worse

In addition, how is the economy not 'dire'
The Bank of Scotland has warned of a global credit collapse mostly due to the subprime crisis here. Many banks have went under and shut down by the FCC. Billions of loses are posted across the board at any financial center. The stock market continually is on a downward slide. Gas prices have neared out of control. Basic food prices are approaching ridiculous.

At this point I would wish we had invaded Iraq with the intent of stealing their oil.

Sure, we aren't eating rice rations, but it is no where near 'good'.
