sort of a flyer which I thought was a parking ticket. I open it and it says that the irving police dept is concerned about the safety of my vehicle and it has some information about the whole hide take and lock program. as the note went on it eventually said:

your vehicle has...
[x]passed [ ]failed

I thank the irving police department for passing my car as I do not take failure lightly

Some police agencies do that... they'll even roll down neighborhoods and look for open garage doors, etc and leave notes about it...

Little Elm is starting a program that fails everywhere else.... pulling over GOOD drives to give them gift cards to local stores / food places. That shit never works and there are always problems from it. And it leaves open the possibility of pulling over a "good" driver who just happens to have an open container or something.

^That's the whole point! I mean I have my own personal issues with the police, but the point of a random stop is maybe you will get lucky and pull someone over that needs to stop driving. Don't drink and drive. I have done it and I wake up the next morning and say,"god that was dumb, what was I thinking." So just because you haven't gotten in a wreck yet, doesn't mean anything.

On the other hand, some people are bad drivers and everyone else has just managed to dodge their ass so far. I'm sure a few rewards have gone out to bad drivers that got lucky.

The point is, they are going to run into legal issues because of the nature of the stop. That's why when departments initiate these programs they never last very long. Shit tons of people drive around drunk every night, the open container was just one example. They could instead have a warrant, or a blunt, or their insurance expired. Whatever.
