Do you respect yr elders?

I was just thinking about obsessed ppl are with youth & newness & have seen ppl disregard anything that elder ppl say... and advice they give & wisdom they could pass down.

I'm talking about people that are 60 yrs plus... btw.

I had an amazing relationship with my aunt and now that she is not here I really need someone to talk to who has already been through it all.

There's something to learn from everyone... Even the misguided and self-absorbed youth of today.

For the most part yes. i see my grandpa daily which means daily lectures. I take about half to heart, but the rest I believe he is just outta touch. Too old and doesnt understand the world I live in.

lol, yeah i threw that 60 yrs plus in b/c I knew someone would make cracks at the 40 yrs old.

I did get tired of being lectured but now I miss them. I just want my aunt to call me & say, "Girl why are you fucking up?"

I certainly do. We generally know nothing of the lives our elders have lived and we should be considered lucky if we are given insight into those lives.
Whether its the wisdom or the stories, I find there's always something interesting to be discovered.

The small snippets of stories my grandfather has revealed to me about his life seem simply adventurous. He lied about his age to join the marines. Was involed in the China Defensive and later the South Pacific. Was supposed to be one of the first tank units to invade mainland Japan, they told them they predicted a 90% casuality rate for the first wave a troops. They day of the launch, they told them they were going to stand down, they were going to drop something called an atomic bomb, first. "What the hell is an atomic bomb and what good is it going to do?" lol...

Was later deployed to Korea and has some crazy ass stories about that place. At the end of his tour there, on a helicopter ride back to a base to catch a flight to Tokyo, the pilot said they needed to stop at some abandoned position to pick up some intelligence officer. They basically kicked him out of the helicopter and said he couldn't be onboard while this officer was onboard. That's when he pulled the gun on the pilot and said to hell with you, if you leave me here, I'm going to die, so I've got nothing to lose here. The intel guy told the pilot it was ok to let him onboard. How fucked up is that?

Finally, quit the marines when they told him he was going to be deployed to Vietnam. Basically, said he served his country long enough, he'd rather go without pension than to die in that place.

Sorry for the long post, but it makes me think about all the stories we have yet to hear from our elders. I mean, they were once young and idealistic as us at one point in our lives.
