i wasnt there, but just wanted to comment on opening these days.

it used to be kind of a deal to kinda play soft early or for opening up, but i dont really see anyone doing it that way anymore. Not just local parties as much as festivals, clubs, big parties, little parties pretty much everywhere.

Its more just like 'fuck it, lets go and not get the party bored before the main act comes on', because peoples attn span is at an all time low. Think some headliners hate it cuz there really not all that good, and really if someone goes nuts and sucks its only gonna help you out by making you look better (other than if people just straight up leave).

The only prob for the headliner is that alot of local cats can easily play with or outplay national dj acts, and then thats when they start bitching.

Doesn't really sound like a "slam" a slam would be dissing them. All i saw was him saying they were playing banging tracks at a early time slot. Which i can understand.

You can still play "soft" or however Feezy put it and still get a crowd going, it's not hard.

I think a dj should play however he or she see's fit. I mean there is no certain format to what should be played or whatever. I like Chris Lake alot but I almost wanna think someone spoiled his night or somethin?

While this is true, whatever happened to building a night? And on the same note, whatever happened to booking openers that complement the headliner? You can still drop a set that's not going to lose the crowd and at the same time not leave the headliner having to drop in banging it right off the bat. Some guys just don't do that -- Chris Lake is one of them. He builds his sets, and he did it proper last night. Hell, next time take note at a Shasa/Digweed show. You will never see people dance as hard as they do to 124 BPM's in your life....

I was going to keep my mouth shut about it, but it was pretty bad. Cooley was doing his thing, which is fine and I don't mean any disrespect to him, but the dude was banging out hard hitting electro at 900 BPM right before Chris Lake was about to go on. Chris obviously said something to him about it and the wheels fell off Cooley's set as he tried to bring it back down. Finally after an extra 30 minutes or so he had enough, took the decks and just killed the track when he was announced and started over. It was one of the worst cases of this happening that I've seen in a while.

Again, no disrespect to Cooley, the guy's got skills. Just wasn't the right way to open for Chris Lake.

I was'nt there so I dunno what was played. I just think dj'ing a party is something you learn from experience and I personally would never be one to beat down the walls right before a headliner came on. I was'nt there and could'nt imagine a dj like Cooley playing this way? I know what I would'nt had done kill another dj's track like you say he did.

le suck. it seems texas doesnt know how to open proper. houston too got a bad opening act for chris (Dj James Reed). something should be done before tx gets a bad rap. my .02

stop booking these people to open. easy enough. i have opened plenty of shows and you can easily warm it up and hand it off without needing to push the bpms through the roof. i usually just go a bit left field. opening can be a lot of fun.
