2 arrested, accused of running man over in downtown Dallas

Dallas police arrested two men Wednesday in the slaying of a 23-year-old man who they say was run down during a robbery.
Kyle Simcoe's death was the second unprovoked murder in the downtown Dallas area this year, putting the area's nightlife and tourism at risk despite recent efforts to increase security.

Deputy Chief Vince Golbeck, commander of the patrol division that includes downtown, said the deaths are cause for concern but they are not indicative of an overall spike in violent crime.
"I just don't recommend anybody being by themselves anywhere in the city" after dark, Golbeck said. "Downtown, Uptown or North Dallas. Late hours, you should always try to be as careful as possible."
Golbeck said violent crime numbers downtown are about the same so far this year as they were at this time last year. Downtown crime overall is down about 9 percent, he said.
Investigators believe Antonio Gallegos Raymundo, 18, and Rodolfo Eliseo Perez, 19, both of Garland, ran Kyle Simcoe down with a pickup early Sunday and left him to die after robbing him in a vacant lot in the 400 block of South St. Paul Street near Young Street.

Additional witnesses came forward after Dallas police released video of the pickup they suspected was used to kill Simcoe. In recent years, dozens of security cameras have been installed on downtown streets to monitor potential problems.
Police said the men are also suspected of using Simcoe's credit cards after running him down.
"It brings at least some closure to it," said Kevin Simcoe, who will bury his son in his hometown of Evansville, Ind., on Saturday. "I just hope that justice will be served now."
Raymundo and Perez were arrested without incident in Garland. Police said they have minor offenses on their criminal records. They both face capital murder charges.
Recent Southern Methodist University graduate Jessica Chanè Waldron, 24, was fatally shot on March 29, while she was standing outside a club on Commerce Street waiting for a valet to return with her car.
Police later arrested Alejandro Espinoza, 21, who they say shot Waldron in an unrelated fit of road rage. Investigators in that case think he shot at another motorist and that the bullet may have ricocheted off the ground before it hit Waldron.

I don't know what it is like now, but back "in the day" in Houston, if there weren't four murders reported on the morning news, it was a slow day. Old west gunfights every night. True story. Two crack dealers would want the same corner and they would both go for their guns.

One guy tried to kill a lawyer I knew. He pulled a pistol on the guy and tried to shoot him. What an idiot. He brought a pistol to a machine gun fight and lost his life.

Unfortunately, shit happens and people do ungodly things to satisfy addictions or have to fit in with a "family" i.e. gang or to seek revenge...like running someone over or shooting them. That stuff happens 4 times a day here in Dallas I GUARANTEE YOU. It could happen to anyone but what is the benefit of being paranoid?

Any urban city or even a small town has appalling crimes and traumatized victims. Like I said, there's no benefit in paranoia but you have to have smarts. No matter what the crime rate, don't get wasted at a club and leave by yourself. Don't accept rides from people you don't know. And don't act like a fucking idiot in general.



Why is it that we only hear about the murders of higher socioeconomic status who are predominantly white? I see the underlying reason, do you? And I hate it. The media doesn't sufficiently portray the scope of assault and homicides in the metroplex.

Or is it because two minority gang members killing each other isn't shocking or unexpected? A random act of violence is harder for people to understand whereas two jackasses walking out of the old Club Blue and shooting it up is kind of common with that crowd.

first of all, we know most of us would just push it to the crib drunk. second of all, waving your wallet around late at night is a surefire way to get your eye swole downtown. having lived down there depending on which club they were at it can get real sketchy when the clubs close. esp. those closer to deep ellum.

Sadly, the dude was in the mindset I had coming from Detroit, which is: Dallas has to be safer. One year later my car got jacked in broad daylight in front of a strip mall. I used to park my ride in really bad sopts of Detroit, too.

They say crime has gone down 30%, but I think they are just saying that. I know we used to be one of the worst a few years ago. Lots of jaundice suffering mofos runnin around out there..

you can't trust the crime rate compared to other cities from a few years ago.


there's a standard that Dallas was fucking up on.

for example, you pull up to an ATM, get out and withdraw money. Cuban Juan comes up and shoots you, robs you and takes your car.

The national standard is to count that as one crime because it happened all at once, but Dallas was counting it as three.


Or something like that... I don't know the details, but I know we were doing our stats differently than the rest of the country.
