| Deuces, nigs! | "Jumping the shark"
Someone PM'ed me asking what it meant and instead of using urban dictionary, I provide you with this: That's how it came about.

it's basically a term to describe when something has gone too far. it's the moment at which the creative quality has begun to drop. in more recent terms, when keeping it real goes wrong.

![]() Eddie Murphy smiles upon this summary of the facts. To Finle: Fonzie didn't, but the show DID. That is the point for comparison. The artform of dj'ing (from the mentioned thread) took itself way out and over what it originally was and became laughable in the scenarios given/present after the jumping of said shark.

in fact, i can remember watching it and thinking, "ok, now THIS is getting stupid." i lost interest in the show shortly thereafter. i think what got me was the wearing of the leather jacket for water skiing. | |

It was a last resort for them to save the ratings of Happy Days. It obviously was super contrived and silly, and this is what has given way to the name "jump the shark". This is given to anything that is past its time and is still going on TRYING to stay legit and successful but obviously just not wanting to lay down and die with dignity. |

![]() | Re: "Jumping the shark" i had to do some digging online. basically, he is challenged to a water skiing duel by some dooche out in california. they tie. someone tells the dooche to up the ante by add "jump a shark" at the tie-breaker. the dooche backs out but fonzie goes ahead coz he ain't no quitter.
