Question for people who dont like where they live

Why dont you guys move if you dont like the city you live in. What does it take for one to just leave and move to a new place they they would actually be proud of living at?

Disskuss.

Re: Question for people who dont like where they live

i would, i had the chance long ago and didnt take advantage...now i kick myself everyday. Its just not practical for me (at my age) to try to get up and relocate and start all over as the new "kid" in a city. you gotta do that shit while you're young and can plant new roots. However, I (and a friend o mine) still have a thing about moving to SF to spend our golden years.

Let that be a lesson kids, if you're gonna do it do it now. Time flies and before you know it......wah waaaah

Plus, its only been within the last few years that things have been so bad. for all the southern, plastic bullshit this city has always had...i could deal because it was at least still fun. but when the Laura Miller years rolled around and she basically made it illegal to use the word "fun", then .....poof! Then all the things i've never liked about this city reared it's head ten fold. Now i'm stuck in the mire. Cities change, but most try to progress...which is what i thought would happen here. Now its more Victorian than its ever been. Who knew........choices.

Re: Question for people who dont like where they live

I've also wondered this about people living in either war torn countries or tragedy/disaster prone areas.

"Hey little Somali kid, get tired yet of swatting flies out of your eyes or picking your next meal out of a smoked out oil drum?

Hey little Laotian boy, tired of having to wear a wig and grind on the laps of barrel chested westerners in order to make shanty town rent? "

lol

Honestly, this whole "LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT" thing can be hilarious given the fact a lot of people firing off that phrase got to their where they're at via either their "families monies" or the help of friends/family etc.

Re: Question for people who dont like where they live

I think Scottie has a valid point. I've recently started to think about moving and the biggest con is having to start my network all over again. I currently have a pretty strong network in the metroplex in my industry. If I move to lets say Seattle or Denver. I don't know anyone out there to give me the inside track on getting a job. Most of the high paying jobs I've ever gotten have been through networking. Jobs where I made a straight lateral move were ones where I went through a recruiting firm which really sucks.

Although I have started looking for ways to start networking in other cities though and I'm currently in a race against time because I'm getting older and will probably start reproducing at an alarming rate since I'm Mexican.

Oh, so then you just got tired of shit, packed up and went to live in NYC?

No help from friends, family, nothing. Just threw everything in a bowl, flew up there, shopped around for a place to live and started fresh?

COOL

Nail. Hammer. Head. I get so sick of hearing about this shit Fernz. The poor disenfranchised Afghany women who have to wear a burkha or get flogged every day or the Iraqi kid that gets his leg taken off in a suicide attack. Just GTFO and quit bitching!! These long drawn out news reports about your plight are making me sick and interrupting my "Biggest Loser" TV program! STFU already!!

Im not comparing myself to a third world country poor boy, neither should you.I got here by the large amount of debt I incurred after selling my car, paying off more debt and getting out my house lease.

Its easy if you have money, I didnt so it was alot harder

Re: Question for people who dont like where they live

The only thing that holds me back would be my son. I haven't left because I don't think it would be fair to him to take away from family. He is getting older now and will graduate high school in 4 years. When that happens I'm selling my house and i'm out. For now I just do as much traveling as possible.

Texas has many great things about it. You can live really well here for not a lot of money. Of you can live super well here with LOTS of money. it allows you to be able to travel, shop and do other things that require a good amount of money.

If you are single with no kids and want to move somewhere then do it!!! What is holding you back? You can make new friends anywhere as long as you get out and meet people.

Re: Question for people who dont like where they live

This is all good. I was just wondering. NOT JUDGING or being mean. Just curious what point of views other people implement in order to enjoy where they live when they dont really like it all the time.

Re: Question for people who dont like where they live

Single and with no kids is of coarse hands down the best time to move or go out into the world exploring.

When you're young chances are you don't have too much shit so its easy to just pick up and "squat" with a bud in whatever crazy cool city they happened to land in.

You get older, you've acquire more crap and have complicated your life with interwoven relationships and such.

I disagree. This state is full of a bunch of country bumpkin bassackwards people. There's virtually nothing involving nature worth doing for outdoor recreation within a 1 hour radius of Dallas (Fishing in a man-made lake or hunting doesn't count).

Agree with this. Living here is pretty cheap on the whole and pay seems fairly competitive in the IT industry which I work in. I've had friends move to Cali *with* transfer money from their jobs and adjusted salary based on cost of living and they are still struggling to get by. Living paycheck to paycheck and detached from their friends and having to start all over.

Re: Question for people who dont like where they live

yeah..i got you. and like i said. You can pull a Madonna and hit NY with 500 dollars a suitcase and a dream when you're 18....and with tits. But, once you get to be 30 something, have 40,000 records, and apartment full of stuff, and no tits.....it gets a little more complicated.
