I know I'm going to look like an asshole here and I hope you can forgive me but..... I've always respected and regarded skateboarding as an art form representative of a rebellious youth subculture with a bit of anti establishment thrown in for good measure. That being said, why is there a "$30" cover charge to an event who's primary backbone is rooted in a somewhat punk anti-authoritarian stance? That's like charging some skate kids 50 bucks to see photographs taken by Glen E. Friedman or some taggers 20 bucks to stand behind Dave Kinsey and watch him graffiti up a wall. Again, not trying to be an asshole but is there something being given away at this event, a kegger or even a mini ramp session being posted up? Was this even ever intended as something "by the skaters for the skaters?"

I've seen skateboarding go from just losers and misfits with a rebellious tone to becoming popular enough for the jocks and preppies. It's been raped a few times over and lost it's way once the X Games started. But if you love doing it then more power to you and if a company has to make money for it to continue to exist then so be it. The only thing that pisses me off are rollerbladers calling themselves "skaters."

yeah, it's a charity even for the Scottish Rite Children's Hospital. the target crowd won't balk at the ticket price. besides, Nomads should get some credit for giving away so much beer and booze at the last party, lol.

True, Peter, you can go to any club and spend $30 in a hour on drinks. The guys keep the booze flowing for FREE all night and for a good cause. Plus you know you want to see my drawings. LOL

![]() | Re: Art of Skateboarding Sheeeeit. I used to LIVE in that place. Skate City used to be inside Bassett which later got its own building on Aztec road. Peter owned it but had Danny and his brother Jerry running the place. I went to high school and hung out with Jerry and Danny. We used to go to 49 cent burgers next door and then post up in the back room watching videos for hours. Later sesh either at Coronado or "tidy bowl". They also had a mini ramp in the place that was privy to a select few. I have way too many skate city stories. Still own 2 of the original 2-shirts they issued out to the team.
