He got away with it for a long time. They're saying some of those bodies may have been there for years. I think sometimes they either don't care about getting caught or are actually hoping to get caught.

I think some of those guys are in such a murderous "stupor" they don't realize how non careful or dirty they're being.

I'd be staring at the wall too and rockin myself back and forth when the cops come kicking in my door if the stench was bad enough.

From what I've read about serial killers, they generally start out being super careful then get over-confident as time progresses and they don't get caught. In some cases, the stress gets to be too much and they actually start to hope they get caught. Kind of a Telltale Heart type scenario.
