live jazz dimly lit & crowded the waitresses are typically rude (but that's part of the charm) the drinks are strong (& there used to be an unopened bottle of thunderbird over the espresso machine in case the ghost of jack kerouac came in for a drink) great place to take a date (or out of towner) for boozing & good conversation. booths are cozy downstairs is the arcade bar, better lighting, nicer staff, jukebox, & less fun attitude. i stick to the upstairs personally. one of my favorite places in dallas is the balcony club <3

played there for years on and off. Great atmosphere and great music (usually). They are def. having a hard time keeping the door open. I haven't heard exact reason, but you should def. go there and support them, this place should not close.......Dallas needs all the independent jazz venues it can get (maybe 3 total).

And if you get your friend drunk enough and tip the band $50..... they will let him sing My Funny Valentine and get him through it.

Haven't been in years! I used to go when Big Al Dupree was still alive and playing there with his trio. Man they were daddies of jazz. I second everything Suza said. And from what I recall, they had the most amazing bloody mary's. This thread has inspired me to go again and show support!

I hang out there on occasion. Nice spot. Be wary of the stairs if you drink too much though. lol
