It was a pre-deployment center according to one of the video clips I saw. The building was being used to give out last minute health and dental check ups before going overseas.

It's amazing what a little bit of army training will do to you.
Take for example all of the shooting sprees you hear about. These guys come in with fully automatic rifles and bombs and shit and only kill a few people and injure a few more.
According to CNN this guy had two pistols and killed 11 and wounded 31?!! wow.

The Soldier Readiness Center is used to process soldiers that are getting ready to ship out (Not that day, but that month or so), getting them shots, making sure their paperwork is in order, etc.

It is also used for soldiers that are getting ready to move to other bases, or are coming into FT Hood. It is also used for people who are getting ready to leave the service.

I went through that facility when I went to Iraq, as well as when I PCS'd to Germany. I know many people who go there to just update their records, re-write wills, POA's and to check on housing requirements.

It also has a small PX (BX is for Air Force), and a cafeteria. So any number of people could have been in there.

Also New soldiers don't train at FT Hood as their first Duty station, Basic training is done at other facilites, So all soldiers there have been in at least 18 weeks.
