yeah last time i checked into those premade fixies alot of them were not a good value for what you pay for. honestly, hit up jeff plunk and he'll build a similar bike with much better parts for $400 bucks. mine isn't from him. but jeff has been fucking with bikes for years and i've recently seen one he completed and it was tough like beff jerky. |

or scoop up a schwinn cutter. Performance bike had them for around 250 last time I went in. Looks good in flat black. You can always upgrade components later. Of take Juan's idea and have someone build one up for you. If you are mechanically inclined at all you can DIY. I just built up an old trek 850 as a single speed for about $200 after buying the whole bike for $50. Frame is bulletproof but like all steel a bit heavy. if you're after something like that color wise, you can buy a good frame that fits and get it powdercoated for about $65 in almost any color you want. Then purchase quality parts as you go. That bike doesn't look like it has brake bosses anyway.

Considering Specialized is the real brand behind Globe with a great team of Designers I would say this is a quality bike. Though I didn't see how much they were asking for it. I personally would rather have a Globe over a Madison only because you see a ton of Madison’s on the street already and they are made in china. That being said they are proven to be good bikes for a good price and they don’t look bad either (esp. the 2010 model made to look like the true Madison of old). Jeff does build some nice bikes from old ten speeds and makes them look like new. The only thing is it may take some time to build with ordering parts as well as grinding down brazons and such. This is my preferred type of bike. Also Im sure he could find a freewheel and brakes for you.

While "Specialized" is an american brand, their bikes are made in one of two places.....Taiwan/China. I bet you $100 bucks you will see a fair amount of globe's on the streets soon enough if people decide to fork over the cash for their bikes. Globe is selling an "idea" IMO, not a particularly wonderful bike. Unless you buy a custom frame.....lots of people have the same one you do. My personal fun with bikes has been buying a frame I like, and putting on parts that meet my needs first and suit my style second. Building them is half the fun. and after looking at their site brad.....the roll only comes as a fixie.

"Fixed gear or freewheel rear hub, you decide" http://www.globebikes.com/us/en/glob...sp?pid=10ROLL1 personally, i want a nice bike to ride. i dont want to build shit. not worried about having a bike nobody else has either. it's a bike, and i like it.
