Well, from my experience, I had an ex who did a lot of fucked up things...cheated, abuse, etc, and after 2 years I gave up on hoping that it would go back to what it used to be, because I started forgetting who he was when we met. I left him, and we had about 2 years of crass arguments and low blows...and just recently we became civil again. I find it hard to forgive him for what he did, but in talking to him, I see that he has changed a bit for the better. It took 2 years for me to be able to remember that we had a friendship above everything else, but now that I do, a lot of emotional issues have lifted.

Even in my shorter relationships, I have gotten hurt, but I guess I just recover fast from those because I can't stay mad at people too long, depending on the type of hurt.
