well i went in and changed my setting on my laptop. should i be plugged into something differently? i'm going from the master on my DJM-600 to my mic jack on the laptop. never get any kind of reading on the levels on soundforge. thats what it said to do so i'm not sure what the hell i'm doing wrong.
Peace,
E.G.
Go to your computer audio properties. (double click the speaker icon on the lower left corner). Click 'Properties' and go to 'Recording Properties'. There you need to un-check 'Line In'. Make sure all your levels are where they need to be.
Then when you go to record in Sound Forge, be sure you check 'Monitor' while you are recording and you should see levels.

i don't have a recording properties setting under my sound menu. i can go under "sound recording" and all i can select is "conexant audio HD input"....i hate computers.

so should i be using my m-audio mobile pre-usb on the laptop?
Peace,
E.G.
if it has line inputs for the 600, then yes. set your computer to use that soundcard for the audio. you may have to go into soundforge's settings and have it read from that soundcard as well. i don't use a pc or soundforge... but setup for any program is generally the same.
since it's a pc. you need to make sure you have the current drivers for the usb soundcard.

yeah i just hooked up the M-audio device and was finally able to get some levels moving and did a quick recording! since i don't have any outputs on the M-audio device i just have to unplug the USB to hear it on the laptop speakers. hopefully this makes some recording easier then my CD burner and wasting CDs. now i just need to mess with the gains and recording levels and see how it all comes out.
thanks again for the help!
Peace,
E.G.
