    Dallas Nightlife Coalition

Ok, so there was a lot of talk here, and The TAG message list lit up for a while, but what's being done? Are we going to sit on our asses and let the fire dwindle...again?

I am not a scene leader, I am a new promoter (1 yr), and new to the scene still (close to 2 yrs). But I am with another crew now, and we are going to be having many parties next year, and hopefully even more the next year etc. Yeah, we're only throwing smaller parties at Clubs right now and maybe some warehouse stuff. But we are going to want to throw larger events, without getting picked on by the police. Our goals include having a large outdoor event next summer, and an event at Bronco Bowl by 2003.

I'm willing to go to meetings, do research, meet with cops & city officials etc. This is my entrepreneural enterprise. I have invested thousands of personal wealth in time & money towards this business, and frankly, some of the risks associated with not being considered "legit" by much of the Law Enforcement and Civil authorities is are scary. I have even lost money because of Law enforcement hassment too. I want this to change! And I am willing to fight for it. But I do not have the money or experience that many of you other Promoters do. I'm calling YOU to do this with me. I know y'all are for this, I have seen and talked with you about this at Metrotribe meetings and via e-mails.

I want action! Do I need to call the DPD and set up a meeting? Do I need to call the Dallas City Council and invite them? I can. I have all of their Names, #'s, & addresses. It would be kind of silly for just me to be there representing the Lightning Crue. If nobody else in the Dallas has the drive to get this started then, fuck it, I'll do it. Austin is going to make it, thanks to Coy and the other ppl in the ANC. Unless Dallas does the same, we won't.

    you need to be patient...

I know you want it "Now" we all do, but things must be done properly, or not at all. the TAG guys are working on it as best they can. If you really want to get in there and get your hands dirty, send personal e-mails to Rob (hooyman), and Sean Andersen. I'm sure there are a million and one things they would like help on.

I don't have time to go into this too much because I've gotta finish a few logos before I head down to Austin to see Stereolab tonight, but I think you're on the list, Chris... you should know that David and Sean and I are all working to get the DFW-TAG initiative underway... David and I even spent some time talking about it the other night at Homebar.

I think we about decided that we are going to focus on Dallas as a city, and then perhaps work on Denton, Ft. Worth & Arlington, Johnson Co., etc. The big thing is to secure a place where events can continue, and then expand the list...

Hope you can have the patience and faith to believe that we're getting this done.

Part of the problem is that the City of Dallas has to WANT to talk to you...right now Dallas could give a shit less.

The Austin scene had their coalition meeting because the Chief of the APD sent the people in the scene a letter which basically let it be known that they were going to put a stop to the drug use and were willing to talk some things through with the right people.

Dallas hasn't gotten to that point yet. If you tried contacting the Chief of the DPD you'd never get anywhere, and its the same for all city council leaders and their staff...they just don't care enough right now.

Maybe having a standing policy in place is a good idea so that, IF, we are put in the same position as the Austin scene we can react quickly.

Yes, I'd be willing to help, but I agree with what Wes is saying.
