I was told by an ex co-worker that had claimed to travel to soooo many places in Mexico that Vallarta was the place to go. Obviously its one persons opinion.
She said what made her like it was that they had the rain forest nearby that you could take tours through, gambling and the fact that it was on the Pacific coast. I think she also might have said something about prices and the locals being good too.
Anyway...I would like to to hear from people who have been and get an idea of what it is like compared with like Cancun. I have been wanting to go to Vallarta for a few years because this ex co-worker insisted its the place to go in Mexico.
To answer the threads question...I would check out the rain forest.
PV is completely different than Cancun. The major difference being the beaches. PV does not have crystal clear water like the Caribbean, and the sand is much darker/courser. The nice thing about PV is you have the Sierra Madres that back right up to the ocean, whereas Cancun is flat.
Cancun is way more of a party atmosphere, PV is more laid back.

If you're into farm animals I've heard they have these great donkey shows.
Just had the sickest dinner: It was a re creation of what Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivero served at parties. Appetizer was a peanut soup with crispy flatbread (served at their Christmas Party) Then was a Chili stuffed with a sweet peppered beef and covered with a spicy cream and tomato sauce with pomegranate pods on top (served at their wedding). Then was a dark black pepper mole chicken with black beans and home made corn tortilla (her favorite). Then flaun, (i didn't try it, I don't like flaun).
